Volunteer & Social Work in Nepal

With Boundless Himalayas Trekking & Expedition P. Ltd voluntary work, donations etc has a long history in Nepal, some of the work done here or money spent undoubtably reaches the people that it was destined for.Unfortunately poverty is also a business in any poor country, Nepal probably ranks in the first division when it comes to corrupt practices. Many so called N.G.O.\’s have started a web site, got themselves a building of sorts, picked up a few orphans and sell themselves as bona fide carers, appealing to people from developed countries who not only have more money but also sometimes feel guilty for this. At Boundless Himalayas Trekking we are well aware of this, our promise to you is that any organisation or project we are involved with will be under our strict supervision, or at the very least they are able to prove beyond doubt that they are what they say they are.

School groups in particular have begun to visit Nepal over the last few years, often taking on a small project as a focus for their stay and many blend this with some adventure activities whilst they are here. Take the support of a remote village school for example, school groups from overseas come to Nepal to help with the development of the school and help to improve what are often very basic village facilities. The great thing about a project like this is that everyone benefits, the Nepali children by having better conditions for improving themselve, the children that visit have the opportunity to experience a very different culture and way of life.

Another real plus is that in an ever decreasing world where the world shrinks daily with the rapid exposure to new media, often these experiences can be transfered back to the classroom where contacts can be kept and added to.We firmly believe in opportunity for everyone, regardless of status. We are at present concentrating our efforts on the improvement of Dubung, a remote village in the Tanahu district. Whilst the village has benefited recently with an upgrading of the village school, there are still many basic facilities that either need upgrading or developing. There is a real need for improving the solar power facilities in the village and also a need to work with the development of different ways for the inhabitants to cook.At the moment the village depends on the forest around them for all their cooking which is depleating rapidly. The village also sadly lacks health care facilities, we would like to to address this. Currently there is a small health post that is staffed once a month by a Nepali health worker.

If you are interested to find out more about our aims regarding Dubung, or indeed you would like more information on voluntary work in Nepal, please make contact with us.
