Overview

Our adventure trip across the mystic serene steppes of Mongolia will be by jeep, camelback, horseback, trekking and kayaking. Along the way, we will have an opportunity to view and visit a number of historically significant sites. A landlocked country in Central Asia, bordered on the north by Russia and on the east, south and west by the People’s Republic of China, Mongolia has been ruled over the centuries by a number of nomadic empires, including the Mongol Empire which was founded in 1206 by the legendary Genghis Khan.

Day 1 Ulaanbaatar (City tour)

Arrive in Ulaanbaatar the capital of Mongolia.  Depending on time of arrival transfer to hotel after a meal enjoy a city tour including: Gandan monastery and visit to the biggest square Sukhbaatar which is located in the center of Ulaanbaatar. Have lunch in Mongolian Traditional Restaurant. then visit the Natural History Museum which is famous for its authentic dinosaur skeletons and fossils.Visit Zaisan memorial hill for a view of the whole city. Welcome dinner at restaurant,stay overnight in hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 2 Ulaanbaatar Khuvsgul Lake (Murun province)

In the morning, fly to the capital of Khuvsgul province Murun. The flight takes one and a half hours. Drive to Khuvsgul National Park. Transfer to the camp and lunch. Visit a yak breeding family,stay overnight in ger at the tourist camp. (Ger means Mongolian traditional felt accommodation). (B, L, D) 

Day 3 Discover Khuvsgul National park 

Today is quite a special day,you have an opportunity to ride reindeer and observe them before a kayak trip on the lake. Khuvsgul Lake is one of the purest fresh water lakes in the world. Its surroundings are right out of a fairytale. The lake is the second deepest lake in Central Asia at 262 meters and it is 136 kilometers long.  Stay overnight in ger at the tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 4 Khuvsgul National park to Jargal jiguur hot spring

In the morning we drive to Jargal jiguur hot spring and transfer to camp in the afternoon. Visit jargal Jiguur hot spring, a sulphar spring that emerges from the ground (150m) at 70 degree Celsius. Facilities includes outdoor bathing (male and female) Stay overnight in ger at the tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 5 Jargal jiguur hot spring to Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake

We travel to Terkhiin Tsagaan National Park and the Khorgo volcano. The lake, birdlife and mountains are now protected within the 77,267 hectare Khorgo-Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur National Park. The lake was formed by lava flows from a volcanic eruption many milennia agoand it is excellent for swimming. There is an opportunity to go horse riding and trekking is also available to Khorgo Volcano. Stay overnight in ger at the tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 6 Terkhiin Tsagaan Lake to Tsenkher Hot Spring 

In the morning,drive to Tsenkher hot spring. On the way we make a short stop to Tsetserleg the capital of Arkhangai to visit the Zaya Gegeenii huree museum and then continue the drive to the lake. Stay overnight in ger at the tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 7 Exploring Tsenkher Hot Spring 

This day you have the opportunity to go horse riding and trekking as well as hot spa bathing. Stay overnight in ger at the tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 8 Tsenkher Hot Spring to Tuvkhun Monastery (Talbiun)

Today we travel through the semi arid steppe to reach Tuwkhun monastery which was funded by Zanabazar. The monastery is a WORLD HERITAGE SITE.  Stay overnight in ger at the tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 9 Tuvkhun Monastery (Talbiun) to Karakorum (Erdenezuu monastery) 

Early morning drive to Karakorum, arrive late afternoon, on the way we stop for a picnic.Karakorum was the ancient capital of Mongolia. Karakorum city was located on the right bank of Orkhon River and on the north-eastern slopes of the Khangai Mountain,it was founded by Chinggis khan in 1220.At the time it was not only the capital of the vast Mongolian Empire but the epicentre of trade along the Silk Road. At that time the inhabitants of the city were mostly merchants and craftsmen who came to karakorum from all over the world. Khubilai khan moved the capital of the Mongolian Empire to China, establishing the Yuan Dynasty,after that Karokoram began to loose its importance.  In 1379 much of the city was badly damaged during an attack by the army of the Min Dynasty. Erdene Zuu monastery

Erdene zuu monastery was built by Avtai Sain Khan on the ruin of the Mongolian capital Karakorum in 1586. It was the first great Buddhist Monastery of Mongolia. It is part of the World Heritage Site entitled Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape. Stones from the ruins of Karakorum were used in its construction. It is surrounded by a wall featuring 108 stupas, 108 being a sacred number in Buddhism and the number of beads in a Buddhist rosary. The monastery was damaged by warfare in the 1680s but was rebuilt in the 18th century and by 1872 had a full 62 temples inside. The Erdene Zuu Monastery was given state protection and became museum in 1944.

Day 10 Karakorum (Erdenezuu monastery) to Ongi temple

Drive to Ongi temple. The ruins of Ongi Temple are found in Saikhan Ovoo soum of Dundgobi (Middle Gobi) province. It used to be a big Buddhist monastery compound built by Bari Yonzon Khamba on the bank of the Ongi River. Transfer to the camp before the lunch. Visit the ruins of temple also there is small ger museum. Dinner and stay overnight in ger at tourist camp.  (B, L, D)

Day 11 Ongi temple to Bayanzag (Flaming Cliffs)

Drive to Bayanzag which is located 20 kilometers from Bulgan soum, where 70 million years ago a lot of Paleontological findings were discovered. The place is known as Flaming Cliffs so named by Roy Chapman Andrews American explorer who visited Mongolia in 1922. During his two year stay he explored the Mongolian Gobi Desert and he found many dinosaur fossils and dinosaur eggs,the first time in the world that dinosaur eggs had been discovered Stay overnight in ger at the tourist camp. Day 12 Bayanzag (Flaming Cliffs) to Khongor sand dunes (Singing sand dune)

Today we drive to Khongor sand dune,approximately 180 kilometers long and 3-15 kilometers wide. From a distance it looks like a fin of huge gold fish. Stay overnight in ger at tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 13 camel riding tour to Sand dune

Free day! Visit a camel breeding family to learn about their traditional nomadic lifestyle,there is a chance to go camel riding at the nearby sand dunes. There is beautiful green oasis known as Seruun bulag near the Khongor River. Return to the camp for lunch and enjoy the tranquil and peaceful surroundings of the Gobi Desert. Dinner and stay overnight in ger at tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 14 Khongor sand dunes to Yol Canyon

After breakfast drive to Yol Canyon, visit the local natural museum before entering to valley. The valley is very wide at its entrance, it narrows gradually to form a remarkable gorge. There is a good opportunity to view ibex and wild sheep along with many vultures.Stay overnight in a ger at the tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 15 Yol Canyon to Baga Gazriin Chuluu (Earth stone) 

Drive to Middle Gobi, known as Baga Gazriin chuluu (earth stone).Arrive early afternoon, lunch at the camp. There are some interesting granite rock formations, also there is an eye spa that is supposed to improve your vision. There is a ruin of an ancient small temple, located in the middle of the rock. Stay overnight in a ger at the tourist camp. (B, L, D)

Day 16 Baga Gazriin Chuluu (Earth stone) to Ulaanbaatar 

Drive back to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to the hotel and lunch at the finest restaurant in Ulaanbaatar. In the afternoon free time for shopping  in the evening attend a national folklore performance with national songs, throat singing and tsam mask dancing. A farewell dinner,stay overnight in hotel.

Day 17 Departure

Check out from the hotel, transfer to the “Chinggis Khan” International airport or train station for departure.
