Gokyo Ri Everest Base Camp

Everest Gokyo Ri Trek


The trek to Goyko offers an alternative to the traditional Everest base camp trek. From Goyko Ri, more of Everest itself is visible than from Kala Pattar above Gorak Shep. The mountains are more spectacular, the Ngozumpa Glacier is the largest in the Nepal Himalaya and, from a ridge above Goyko, four 8000-meter peaks (Cho Oyu, Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu) are visible. The view of the tremendous ice ridge between Cho Oyu and Gyachung Kang (7922m) is one of the most dramatic panoramas in Khumbu Himalaya.

Itinerary in Details

Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu.
Arrive in Kathmandu and you will be transferred to your hotel. Welcome and introductory program.

Day 02 : Sightseeing in Kathmandu.
The sightseeing takes you to ancient Durbar Squares and different Buddhist and Hindu Temples which hold significant cultural importance. Preparation for Trek.

Day 03 : Fly to Lukla (2840m) and trek to Phakding. Overnight Phakding (2640m)
You have a scenic flight to Lukla from Kathmandu. From Lukla the trail climbs to Ghat (2590) and again climbs to Phadking. In Phakding you can climb to the gompa to see your first view of the high peaks. Now you will really feeling like you have arrived in the Himalayan Kingdom. Overnight Stay in Phakding.

Day 04 : Phakding (2640m) to Namche Bazaar (3420m)
We start our trek after having breakfast from Phakding .From here you can see excellent views of Thamserku peak. Then the trail climbs to Chomoa, the site of an agricultural project, an interesting place to have a look around and gain an insight into the farming way of life of these people. From Chomoa, the trail again climbs to Monjo (2840m) and enters the Sagarmatha (Everest) National Park (1148sq km, established in 1976). Walking some distance up hill you will be at Jorsale (2830m) and after a long climb with views of Mt. Everest peeking over the ridge of Nuptse (7879m) the trail reaches the street of Namche Bazaar. Overnight Stay in Namche Bazzar.

Day 05 : Namche Bazaar - rest day for acclimatization , visit Buddhist monastery, museum and or short hiking.
After having breakfast take some sightseeing around Namche Bazaar. Then you can hike to the Everest View Hotel, the ideal place to overview some of the outstanding mountains such as Mt. Everest, Ama Dablam, Thamserku, Lhotse etc. Make sure you have your camera to capture this moment. In the centre of Namche you can visit the mountaineering museum and visit the Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee (SPCC). In Namche Bazaar you can spend some time interacting with the fun-loving Sherpa people. In Namche above the police check post you will see Sagarmatha National Park headquarters and if you want to look at the visitor centre it is open from 8am to 4pm except Saturday and holidays. Overnight Stay in Namche.

Day 06 : Namche Bazaar to Dole(4040 m).
Today we walk from Namche to Dole. Overnight Stay in Dole

Day 07 : Dole to Machhermo (4410m)
From Dole the trail climbs through a huge rock at Lhabarma (4330m) and carries on to Luza (4340m).From Luza the trail continues to climb to Machhermo (4410m) where you can have good views of the mountains. Overnight Stay in Machhermo.

Day 08 : Machhermo - Gokyo (4750m, 5 hrs)
Today, we will be passing through Machhermo; the trail climbs and reaches Pangka (4390m). Beyond Pangka the trail drops and again climbs steeply. From there you can see the massive Ngozmpa Glacier and finally you arrive at Gokyo. Overnight Stay in Gokyo

Day 09 : Gokyo - visit Gokyo Ri (5340m), walk down Nala.(4440 m)
After having breakfast you can take a look around Gokyo valley. If you want to observe the best view you have to climb Gokyo RI (5357m) which is also called Kala Patthar but not the Kala Patthar above Gorakshep. From here you have panoramic views of Cho Oyu (8201m), Gyachung Kang (7922m), Everest, Lhotse (8516m), Makalu (4063m), Cholaste and Tawachee. Walk down to Nala and Overnight Stay in Nala.

Day 10 : Nala to Cho-La Pass (5,420m) and to Dzongla
After breakfast walk from Nala to Cho La Pass and walk up to Dzongla The views of Ama Dablam and Taweche are spectacular. Overnight Stay in Dzongla .

Day 11 : Dzongla to Lobuche (5018 m)
After a rough trail we reach to our site at Lobuche, a windswept collection of huts tucked in a narrow meadow between the glacier and the Lobuche Peak (6119m). The Lhotse ridge is simply awesome from this angle. Overnight Stay in Lobuche

Day 12 : Lubuche-Everest Base Camp - Gorak Shep(5140m):The trail continues climb to Gorak Shep. The trek leads you finally to the Everest Base Camp (5,357m/17,575ft) walking through rocky and glacial trails where climbers gather for summiting Everest and back to Gorakh Shep. Overnight night stay at Gorakhshep

Day 13 : Gorak Shep-Kalapaththar (5545m) - Lubuche:
Early morning walk up to the famous viewing point of Kalapaththar (Black Rock) at 5,545 m; this small peak offers the best views of Mt. Everest, Pumori, Ama Dablam and many more you can get without climbing. Continuing the trek we'll return to Lobuche (4930m/12894ft) for overnight.

Day 14 : Lobuche to Tengboche ( 3850 m)
Today we continue our trek downward up to Tengboche. Overnight Tengboche.

Day 15 : Tengboche to Monju (2850m)
We return back to the hustling and bustling market place of the everest region ,Namche Bazaar. Overnight Stay in Monjo

Day 16 : Monju to Lukla
After numerous ascents and descents through the forest, among rocky cliffs and sheer drops overlooking the river, we finally reach Lukla. Overnight Stay in Lukla

Day 17 : Lukla to Kathmandu
Fly back to Kathmandu. Transfer to Hotel. Afternoon free time shopping and relaxation.

Day 18 : Transfer to airport to fly back home.
