Tamang Heritage Trek

This trekking area is located about 30 kilometers toward the north of Kathmandu. Trekking along this unbeaten trail is a new experience for the trekkers experiencing the beauty of this mountain region with the culture of local people. You trek through Tamang villages with its life, culture and crafts which have remained untouched from the beginning of the settlement. The trekkers will receive hearty felicitation by the locals rich in their distinct costumes, architecture of their mountain houses and ancient monasteries. It offers you wilderness experience through beautiful landscapes of alpine terrain, flat meadows and rhododendron forests.

The main inhabitants of this area are believed to be the descendants of Tibetans from Kerung who intermingled with Tamang of the Helambu area. Tamang communities are generally found on higher elevations with the peasants engaging in shifting cultivation and extraction of forest products. They are mainly sheep and yak herders but grow some hardy grains and vegetables. Their daily life activities include raising livestock, agriculture and trade with Kerung in Tibet. They also make baskets and mats from mountain bamboo.

During this trek you can enjoy the dramatic views of Langtang Lirung (7245m.), Langtang Kerung, Chimse Danda ridge crossed by Ganjala Pass (5122m.), Dorje Lakpa (6989m.), Jugal Himal, Ganesh Himal, Paldor peak, Shringi Himal, Manaslu and Sanjen Himal ranges.

The trail starts either from Dhunche or Syabrubesi and passes through Goljung, Gatlang, Thuman, Timure, Briddim, Lama Hotel, Langtang valley and Kyangjin Gompa. Goljung, Gatlang and Langtang are traditional Tamang villages culminating cultural features. The visit to beautiful local Tamang monastery and the holy Parvatikunda Lake at Gatlang adds exhilaration to your trekking.


Itinerary of Tamang Heritage Trek 11 days in Details

Day 01 : Arrival in Kathmandu.
Arrival in Kathmandu. Welcome and receive from the airport and transfer to Hotel. Briefing about the program.

Day 02 : Sightseeing in Kathmandu valley.
The sightseeing takes you to different historical and cultural sites such as Pashupatinath, Boudhanath, Swoyambhunath, Kathmandu Durbar Square and Patan Durbar square

Day 03 : Kathmandu – Syabrubesi (1,460 meters) to acclimatise and overnight at a guesthouse.
Today's activities: 9 hours drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi , the starting point of the 8 days 7 nights exploration of the Tamang Heritage Trail in the region of Lantang, Rasuwa. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 04 : Syabrubesi – Goljung (1,960 meters) – Gatlang (2,240 meters) for overnight stay at a community lodge.
Today's activities: Begin trekking for about 6 hours from Syabrubesi to Goljung (1,960 meters) a Tamang village with ancient monasteries and beautiful hats, rest and explore the areal. From Goljung, you will trek for another 5 hours to Gatlang, a large Tamang village set high on a hillside among terraced fields for overnight stay. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 05 : Gatlang (2,240 meters) - Tatopani (2,240 meters) for overnight stay at a community lodge.
Today’s activities: Continue your exploration and trek for about 6 hours to the village of Tatopani (literally means hot water). The village has one of the biggest and hottest natural hot springs in Nepal, good to heal aches and pains from the trek. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 06 : Tatopani - Nagthali (3,300 meters) - Thuman (2,000 meters) for your overnight at a homestay.
Today’s activities: Trek for about 6 hours to Nagthali, the high open grassland with amazing views of snow covered Himalayas and the Tibetan range. On top of the hill lies a Buddhist monastery. Continue to trek to Thuman, a Tibetan influenced Tamang village with friendly people who love to sing and dance. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 07 : Thuman - Timure (2,240 meters) – Rasuwagadhi (2,240 meters) – return to Timure for your overnight stay at a community lodge.
Today’s activities: Start trekking for about 7 hours to Timure with an en-route to the old trade route to Tibet. Here it leads to the historical fort at Rasuwagadhi rests in the banks of the river. An old suspension bridge is the linkage between Nepal and Tibet. You will return to Timure for your overnight stay at a community lodge. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 08 : Timure - Briddhim (2,290 meters) for your overnight at a homestay.
Today’s activities: Trek for about 6 hours to Briddim, another Tibetan influence Tamang village. Go on village walks with your host family to see the lifestyle, traditions and customs of the people. The villagers will gather in the evening in their traditional costume, performing cultural songs and dances, as a gesture of welcoming guests to their home. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 09 : Briddhim (2,290 meters) – Syabrubesi (1,460 meters) for your overnight stay at a lodge.
Today’s activities: Trek for about 4 hours to Syabrubesi, the final leg of the Tamang Heritage Trail. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 10 : Syabrubensi – Kathmandu for your overnight at a hotel.
Today's activities: Return to Kathmandu on a 7 hours drive. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 11 : As per the flight schedule, transfer to airport for final departure
